We have a large population of immigrant and refugee students learning English as a 2nd, 3rd, 4th language. These students engage in reading, writing, listening, and speaking in our English Language Development classes.
To foster a community of learners and increase the academic language of our students, we want to read literature that engages the reader, stirs their souls, and creates classroom discussion.
When students read diverse books, they see themselves and others. They learn about the world and learn how to communicate with others. These books are reading level appropriate for our language learners and have been curated to also be high-value texts that will promote age-appropriate learning.
