My Project
Encouraging students to read more can be a very challenging task, especially if the books are not of interest to them. Books featuring black characters provide children of color opportunities to form mental connections with the stories they read because they see themselves reflected in the characters.
Providing students with books with characters that look like them encourages them to read more and increase their comprehension level.
Studies have shown that reading improves comprehension, vocabulary, builds confidence, and improves analytical skills.
The selected books will be used to foster a love of reading and connectivity while improving students’ comprehension and confidence.
