Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Teaching in a low-income, inner city community for the past 14 years has been an amazing experience. My students are 2nd and 3rd graders and have various degrees of special needs. They are sweet, eager to learn and have a great spirit that keeps me on my toes. Teaching a special education self-contained classroom is challenging and exciting at the same time.

Seeing the 'lightbulb' go off when it just clicks is extremely rewarding for me and they are so proud of themselves that they 'got it!'.

Knowing they do not get a lot at home and are often responsible for helping with so many chores after school, makes me want to support them so much more at school. I want my students to know that it's ok to need help and to ask for it. That's how we can grow and learn so much more.

My Project

My students need access to Storyworks Junior and Scholastic magazines to improve their reading ability. They love to read, but often find the book selection not exactly what they want.

Receiving the magazines each month with world news and different stories will help get my students find their love for reading again.

And who doesn't like getting mail? They will be so excited to see what they will be reading about with each new delivery and I will be able to differentiate their reading with the online access provided with each subscription. Your support of this project will enable my students to read and learn about things they never would've be able to.
