Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our students love to learn. They thrive when developing and applying new skills, and they are resilient. We are an urban, low-income district, and the majority of our students come from hardworking immigrant families, many of whom speak a language other than English at home.
The books I am requesting will help our students learn about voting and elections.
Teachers will use the books as read-alouds to launch grade-appropriate civics lessons around the upcoming presidential election; an in subsequent years to reinforce concepts of civics with students. Older students can borrow the books to support their own inquiry into civics topics such as elections.
It is critical that we have current, age-appropriate and standards-aligned books on relevant topics for students to access in our library media center -- to ensure students continue to be motivated to read and learn!
Our amazing elementary complex library media center serves 2000+ students in four schools, and I am working to turn it into a 21st century library media center and learning hub where students will collaborate and learn, with resources that motivate them.
