This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have the largest amount of students in my classroom than any other room at my school. I am currently teaching thirty-one first-graders in a Title I school, located in a high poverty and high crime area of Pennsylvania.
All of my students receive free breakfast and lunch.
Many of my students come from homes where English is not spoken. I have three special education students and four ESL (English as a Second Language) students in my classroom. Six of the students in my classroom have an in-class social worker.
My Project
My students have requested that we get more Nooks for our classroom. Several of our Nooks are no longer working and the children have to share them. We are hoping to get enough Nooks, with cases, so that we can use them in our literacy and math centers. The children will listen to stories and songs on the Nooks.
We are also hoping to get some hard candy for our afternoon snack time.
The children often get lethargic and unfocused after recess. I am hoping to get them motivated and more alert by offering them a variety of sucking candy such as peppermints and lifesavers.
