Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Most of my students are considered at-risk due to socioeconomic circumstances, which of course, is not their fault. What I have found is that Art heals the heart. My kids are super creative and talented.
Art is a universal language.
You don't have to be a native English speaker to be gifted. You do, however, have to have access to materials which enhance the learning process. This is the reason we have reached out to the community. Please help us.
My Project
My school has gone from a STEM program to a STEAM program. Being a charter school in a low socioeconomic community makes funding for things such as Art difficult. Sure, I could go to a dollar store to purchase mediocre supplies out of my own pocket, because that is basically what a teacher salary affords, but I believe that my students will get more out of using the proper tools for a young artist.
Being introduced to Mixed Media using high quality Art materials will inspire my budding young artists to strive for and achieve their best work possible.
Nothing feels as wonderful as seeing the picture in your mind come to life on smooth paper with vivid color. Using brushes where the bristles fall out on paper that bleeds is disappointing. I am hoping that this project gets funded because every child deserves to see their own work of art.
I believe that Art is healing. So many of my young students need healing. I really hope that this project can help my students find their artistic voice.
