My Students

I teach twenty-five happy and excited-to-learn third graders. All day long they have fun growing, thinking, and trying their best. Our school is a wonderful, small multicultural school located in Los Angeles. Many of the students at our school qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, and everyone receives free breakfast.

I teach a fantastic group of students that leap with full force onto any project I suggest.

I am amazed every day how hard they try, and how much heart and care they put into their work and projects. Our classroom is filled with laptops, Chromebooks, and iPads. There are enough so that every student can work at the same time on research, work on their math skills, or practice writing skills using some form of technology.

Our school is planning a Family Night of Robotics, and besides sharing the LEGO Wedo Robots my students are programming, I want to add some dazzle to the night by having the students work with their parents to program lights, color, and all sorts of wonderful faces with the amazing Kano Pixel Kits!

My Project

I loved playing with my Lite Brite Magic Screen when I was young, carefully inserting small lights to make colorful displays colored lights. My students will get to produce animated light displays with Kano Pixel Kits. I have requested 3 Kano Pixel Kits which we will use in class and at Family Robotics Night.

My students will work with their peers to build the pixel kits and then use block programming to create dazzling light displays.

They will learn how to program faces to appear on the display that have lips that move when sound is made, lights that turn on and off with the beat of a song, and thousands of pictures - all with block programming.

During Family Robotics Night, my students will demonstrate what they have programmed with their pixel kits, and then the students will work with their parents to program a light display together. I know the parents will be excited to see all the possibilities of teaching their children block programming.

Your help donating to this project means that you will be bringing light, color, motion, and programming skills to my students and their families. Learning a skill hands-on is the best way and these pixel kits will be a wonderful addition to our classroom. Thank you for donating to our project!
