This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have the largest amount of students in my classroom than any other room at my school. I am currently teaching thirty-one first-graders in a Title I school, located in a high poverty and high crime area of Pennsylvania.
All of my students receive free breakfast and lunch.
Many of my students come from homes where English is not spoken. I have three special education students and four ESL (English as a Second Language) students in my classroom. Six of the students in my classroom have an in-class social worker.
My Project
My students have requested books about children in first grade. These books include First Grade Jitters and First Grade Stinks. They also want a Junie B Jones book about a first grader. I am also hoping to get a First Grade Big Workbook for my little ones for when they complete their work. This book will be used to reinforce skills that have been taught in class. Some of these skills include addition and subtraction problems.
The children will read the story books at our classroom library.
They will use the workbooks both at their desk as well as at our writing center.
