This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are 6th through 8th grade students in a Title I school. As their Social Studies teacher, ever year, I try to ensure that all my students get the opportunity to receive a high quality education and reach proficiency in reading comprehension, acquire knowledge of world and national events through current events. It motivates our teens to read articles that not only focuses on themselves, but on others and their plights. It also helps them to put into perspective what are their rights and responsibilities as a citizen.
Since our school is approximately 95% Hispanic, and the students are mostly children of immigrants, it is important for them to learn about each others' cultures and learn about the United States and its history.
My Project
My Civics students have to prepare for a End of Course exam and need to know what makes our country works. As they learn about the foundation of our Government, Junior Scholastic allows them to relate the past with the present.
With Junior Scholastic, not only will my students be able to know what is going on in our nation, but what is happening internationally and how it affects us in the US.
It also allows my students to brush up on their map skills. The magazines will be used on reading days so that we can keep learning interesting.
These Junior Scholastic magazines help my students to prepare and be aware at the same time. It also helps my students who are at different reading levels since I can change the reading level on the online program which enables me to differentiate instruction.
