Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I'm getting ready for another challenging year. This coming year, I will be teaching a first and a second grade combination class. My students will start with a disadvantage because of the pandemic and I want to have as many tools as possible to help them succeed in school.
I know they will be eager to learn and they will be full of energy and wonder because for some of them this will be their first time in an actual classroom.
I have been teaching for 20 years in the same public school that is located in a city where 90 percent of our population is socioeconomically disadvantaged. About 4 percent of our student population are foster youth.
My Project
These mathematics magnetic charts offer practice in many essential national standards that students need to know by the end of the grade level.
I'm working on a math bulletin board in class and these magnetic math charts will help us review math concepts everyday at the beginning of math class.
By practicing these essential concepts everyday, students will feel more comfortable with these concepts. We will write the number of the day on the chart. I will invite students to use the number line to show the number of the day, I will invite other students to write the number in words form, make a number bond, write tallies, and write math number sentences. In addition to this, we will review money, place value, and use the hundreds chart to teach one more, one less, ten more, ten less.
I will use magnetic writing page to teach my students correct letter formation, correct spacing between words, capitalization and punctuation marks at the end of each sentence.
