My Project
My class is made of students with severe delays many of which are medically fragile. With the onset and continuation of Covid-19, many of my students have not had the opportunity to leave home and interact with their peers thus hindering their already delayed social-emotional development. For some students, the first day in class is the first time they have been around their peers.
This project will help provide materials needed for my students to not only learn to take turns and play with each other which is important for their social-emotional and cognitive development.
Being around peers in the classroom might cause a little anxiety for some students so I have included some sensory toys to help calm. I have requested a couple of chairs with small arm rests to help students feel more stable while working together at tables. My students have also spent a large part of their lives seeing others in masks which makes it difficult to recognize emotions. Materials I requested will provide ways to learn about their own emotions and those of others.
