This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This year I get to teach history to energetic, creative, and fun-going middle schoolers from South Los Angeles. Though they are in special education classes with large learning gaps, each of them brings their unique talents, personalities, and world views that I use to help make the study of History real and relevant to them.

My Project

This project is part of an interactive introductory unit for the American Revolution. This is a difficult story to remember and as special education students, visuals, especially ones they can touch, and play with, are crucial to supporting their learning process.

On the first day I launch the unit students will have a chance to explore the items such as the miniature tea set, the 13 colonies original antique flag, and the colonial and British toy soldiers set, and make inferences as to how these items are all connected to the American Revolution.

During the remainder of the unit students will still have access to seeing and touching these items as visual cues and reminders to what we are studying about.
