Help me give my students a Build a Business Financial Literacy Kit. Students will role play buying and selling fruit and vegetables by using a cash register to charge for products and to give out change.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our students are inquisitive, bright, and enthusiastic learners. They are interested in learning and staying engaged during new lessons that are presented to them. They are especially motivated to learn when they have hands-on manipulatives.
Many families are currently experiencing unemployment, evictions, COVID-19, and loss of loved ones.
Many students of our community live in small apartments or homes where they live with several families due to the high cost of living. Many families live below the poverty line and can not afford to buy basic school supplies, clothing, and some suffer from food insecurity.
My Project
Students will role play buying plastic fruit and vegetables using the business financial kit. They will practice paying and charging for play groceries. This kit will help students about the value of money, how to count and how to give change. They will learn how to shop within a budget and about the cost of everyday items.
Students learn better when they are engaged in meaningful activities.
We will start out counting money, work towards shopping and finally learn about saving for wanted items. Students will be taught to save money for their college education.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
