Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We're in the middle of the school year and this year I am teaching a first and a second grade combination class. My students started with a disadvantage because of the pandemic and I want to have as many tools and materials as possible to help them succeed in school.
My students are eager to learn and they are full of energy and wonder because for some of them, this is their first time in an actual classroom.
I have been teaching for 20 years in the same public school that is located in a city where 92 percent of our population is socioeconomically disadvantaged with 59.5% English Language Learners.
My Project
This year our school got to work with an organization called Playworks. A staff from Playworks comes to our school and teaches us, the staff at the school and students how to play different games. The problem is that we do not have enough equipment to play all these games. We have to share the equipment with the entire school of about 340 students.
My students love to play “dodgeball” and they need durable foam balls that are small enough for them to catch and throw.
These colorful balls will be very helpful because we will using them during recess and physical education. My students will do cardio by running, jumping, and moving while learning about working together as a team, learning the rules of the game, and having fun!
