Let's Play Ball! Safety, Repetition, and Arm Care

My students need new helmets. Our tanner tees need to be replaced as well. Baseballs are needed every year. We use Jaeger Bands every day at practice and at games. These are great for arm care.

My Students

I am the head coach for our middle school baseball team. Lake Butler, Florida is in rural Union County. We play under FHSAA rules. Our practices start in January where we start with 30-40 student-athletes at tryouts. We normally keep 16 players on the team. We usually play 14 regular season games and a conference tournament at the end of the season in April. Our team funds are limited. We have to raise money for everything that we purchase.

I also teach at an elementary school in a rural community of North Florida.

Being in a rural community, kids do not get to play with one another after school as much as kids within a city. School is their only outlet for interaction with their peers, as most people are spread too far for kids to walk to one another.

We live in a rural county in Florida with a 19.6% poverty level. The county seat of Lake Butler holds our only elementary school, where we currently have about 1,200 students.

My Project

Our practices will be more effective and will have a lasting impact on the players if this project is funded. The baseballs will provide players the opportunity for more repetitions. The Jaeger Bands will provide players with arm care, flexibility, and strength. The Tanner Tees will help players work on the correct swing mechanics and hitting the ball in different locations (outside, inside, high, low). Our helmets need to be replaced. The helmets on the project are purple. Our team colors are purple and gold. We hope this will give the players some school pride and some confidence as they approach the plate.
