My Project
Let's connect through play! My students are preschoolers through 5th grade with a variety of strengths and communication needs. We use various means such as spoken words or communication tools to express ourselves. My students will use the equipment and materials (scooters, blocks, stomp rocket, and kinetic sand) to support their engagement and sensory needs while working on their IEP goals for joint attention, play, and communication. Their goals include using language for different purposes (such as commenting, expressing interest or dislike, sharing joy, or having a back-and-forth conversation), expanding their language (increasing the complexity of their sentences), and practicing speech sounds.
Engaging students in play with a variety of sensory experiences help give them something worth talking about, which is fun!
When kids are having fun, it lends itself to increased communication opportunities. They will love connecting with these new hands-on, movement-based, engaging activities.
