I am a second year elementary teacher at a Title 1 school that has witnessed the emotional and financial hardships that are dealt to students through no fault of their own. These students work hard to achieve success for their satisfaction as well as the approval that they feel they need from adults that are involved in their lives. As poverty is continuous cycle, education is a great way to break that cycle that some cannot escape without some help from others.
In a town that is riddled with mostly customer service jobs and crime, it is difficult for families to provide some of the necessities young students need.
As a district we ensure that every student is fed breakfast and lunch every day, free of cost. As a teacher, I try to give students a chance to be young while encouraging social and emotional wellness. Hopefully I give students a chance to forget about some of the hardships at home, even if it is only Monday through Friday during school hours
