My Students
My classroom is like my students' home-away-from-home. It is a place where I am fostering a love of learning with a sense of independence. My classroom is set up to be a place where my students can learn and feel as though they are somewhere safe.
The students in my class are all classified as "Autistic" and as one student said, "We are all autistic in our own ways." All the students in my building look out for my students and they will give them "high-5s" when they see them.
I want to be able to provide my students with every experience that they will need to be successful in this world.
Our school is the poorest and in one of the most dangerous cities in the U.S. School is typically the only safe haven these kids know. My students live in a city where the dynamics can change in the blink of an eye. Even though my students live in a city that has its ups and downs, they are always eager to come to school to learn and experience new and exciting things.
My Project
In my classroom, my students love to play "Uno" and I would like to get more and various kinds of card games and board games to play with them. It also helps to encourage speaking and turn-taking. My students love to play as a whole group with the teachers and students all playing together, it also teaching them "good sportsmanship" along with the concept that someone else can win or that you can cheer a classmate on. In our class, we use Friday afternoons as downtime and its a time for the students to relax.
