Help me give my students the opportunity to have fun in small groups while playing a board game, or a card game! These types of games encourages positive peer interactions.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We have an ethnically diverse school with 43% English Language learner population. 72% of our students receive free or reduced-rate meals at school. As a school counselor, I strive to ensure all students enjoy coming to school and feel connected to our school. We have students who lack the skills of maintaining positive relationships due to various factors (limited positive role models, early trauma, poor social skills, etc). Our school focus is not only academic achievement but the importance of character. We strive to teach and model kindness.
My Project
My students love to play board games. Little do they know they are learning some important social skills while playing CandyLand, or the Game of Life.
My students will learn to strategize, work together, and follow directions all while having fun!
Having a supply of board games allows me to provide an alternative to outdoor recess. These games are a great way to teach students how to be a humble winner, and how to handle defeat. Creating a game room type of environment in the counseling office during lunch recess is an added perk for our students. Let's play some games!
