This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Weren't you proud when you brought home a work of art and hung it on the refrigerator? I want my students to have that experience.

I teach an amazing group of low-income students in California.

Though almost 90% of the students at our school receive free lunch, they are showing amazing growth and working very hard to learn each day. Last year, our school was excited to learn that we had some of the largest academic gains of any elementary school in the entire school district.

My Project

Though we have had a lot of success, we still have a very long way to go to give these students the excellent education that they deserve! We have many reading and math intervention programs at our school, but I would love to round out my students’ education by providing them with an outlet for their creativity and teaching them the foundations of art education. I will incorporate art into the classroom weekly and start by teaching them about the color wheel. We will work to develop our skills to create a community mural by the end of the year. In order to accomplish this, my students need access to paint, brushes, and paper.

Thank you so much for considering this idea - I hope to soon tell my students that a kind donor is going to help them learn new skills better by providing these materials.
