This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a physical therapist that provides support to a classroom with students who have special needs. The class has multiple focuses including gross motor time throughout their day. The students participate in yoga class everyday with their special education teacher and classroom assistants. At the moment, they are using towels on the floor to provide a barrier during their yoga time. This is the first year there is a class with special needs at this high school. These students are excited to be attending high school and becoming acclimated to their new environment. Please consider donating a small amount to support their academic setting.
My Project
The material I am requesting are yoga mats for students with special needs who are attending high school to allow them to participate in gross motor time. These students present with varying diagnoses that impact mobility, behavior, cognition, and participation in the classroom. Yoga has been implemented into their day as a way to destress, relax, to move, and come together as a group to focus on better health and wellness. They complete their gross motor time after lunch as a class led by the special education teacher with the assistance of 3 other special education assistants. At the moment, they are currently using towels to place on the floor and complete gross motor activities as a class. These yoga mats would allow them to incorporate physical activity in their day and for all future classes with the special education teacher. Please consider donating to this classroom.
