My Project
In my chemistry classes, I am always looking for ways to make learning relevant and practical for my students. Much of our modern world, from the food we eat to the myriad products we use every day, is grounded in chemistry. When lessons are also grounded in real life and in tangible experiences learning becomes indelibly marked upon their minds, and the joy of questioning and learning is rekindled.
Making something as simple as soap can seem a magical creation of chemistry.
I want to help students understand that chemistry is a practical science. I think that making soap together is a great way to inspire students and for them to realize that chemistry is more than just memorizing the periodic table or molecular formulas.
