This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our students love to learn, they love to develop and apply new skills, and they are resilient! We are an urban, low-income district, and our families are mostly hardworking immigrant families, many of whom speak a language other than English at home.
The Cover One book repair machine that I am requesting will allow us to repair broken spines of old and well-loved books, so we can return them to the shelves for students to borrow and read again!
Our amazing elementary complex library serves 2000+ students in four schools, and I continue to work on turning it into a 21st-century library media center and learning hub where students will collaborate and learn. I also continue to update the materials and resources that students are accessing.
We do not have a huge budget for books, and I have several wishlists of new books to order when I can. However, I have a huge pile of books in the "book hospital" right now, in various stages of falling apart. Many of these are losing pages and have broken spines due to being frequently read, so it is important to get these popular books back in students' hands! It would be much more cost-effective to repair the spines, rather than replace the books. This machine is highly recommended amongst librarians for efficiently repairing spines and bindings, making books as good as new! This will also be a great lesson for students in reusing materials when we can!
