This is my third year teaching first grade after 12 years teaching 4th and 5th grade. I love how first graders are inquisitive and enthusiastic learners! Each day they come to school prepared to give 110%! Our classroom learning community values all diversity and celebrates each others' uniqueness.
Every child knows he/she is special and can explore their future career path in my classroom - the next great scientist, writer, engineer, or future entrepreneur's start might be right here in my classroom!
They are the future, so I hope to set them up for life long success!
My Project
Building a mathematical foundation is crucial in the early grades. To make math learning more engaging, I am hoping to outfit my classroom with some independent math center games that my students will be rushing to play every chance they get. The games provided for with your generous support will do just that!
These games will lure even the most reluctant learners to master math skills, support our curriculum, and create a classroom where MATH IS FUN!
I can't wait to see students playing these games during math class, free choice center time, and even during those rainy indoor recess days.
The Pop and Add Game Set will allow differentiated play in helping students with their fact fluency. More advanced learners will be able to work with bigger numbers and those students that need concrete help can model the math equations with objects provided in the game.
The Build a Number Houses will assist all students with number bonds. Understanding the difference between "parts" and "wholes" are crucial -- this fun game/manipulative will provide students with much needed practice while they "play" with blocks!
Having a math center with differentiated sand timers will assist students in improving their fact fluency but without the pressure of classroom timed tests. Students can feel proud as they use the timer best for them to push their abilities but not lead to frustration or discouragement.
Who doesn't like game shows or using the Smartboard? The Math Plinko game will allow students to comprehensively review first grade math skills.
The How Tall am I? Measuring Game and Subtraction Machine game will assist in also keeping our centers focused on key 1st grade concepts.
Thank you in advance for your generous support. You are making a difference in the lives of some wonderful students!
