This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As a low income school district and a school in which 97% of students are considered to be living below poverty level, my students are not exposed to high end technology and STEAM activities. Many of my students face academic challenges and household financial challenges.
Brownville, Texas is a border city of Mexico, some of my students come and go every day to Mexico.
Some of my students have to wake up as early as 5:00 in the morning just to get to school on time. This, however, does not stop my students from learning and from always trying to do their best. Expectations are still set high and they know there are no excuses not to excel. My students are humble, friendly, charismatic children. Each one of my students is special in their own unique way. My class consists of 19 incredibly amazing students. Of those 19 students, 14 are English Language Learners, 2 are artistically gifted and talented.
Our school believes that every child is capable of learning. Our goal as a school to educate our students so that they can become productive citizens in today's and tomorrow’s society.
My Project
Having an iPad pro in our classroom will provide hands-on learning for the students. My students will be able to run two apps at the same time, thus allowing them to write notes on one side and read and analyze text on the other. My students will also have the opportunity to learn and operate Word, PowerPoint, and Excel documents. As a 4th grade teacher, it is very important for me to teach my students to be technology proficient because it is essential for students to be up to date with the newest technology trends so that they are able to meet and comply with the 21st century demands.
