Let's Make History in Clay!

Help me give my students the opportunity to build works from clay, including the opportunity to experiment with glazes.

My Students

The famous Fauve painter Henri Matisse once stated, “Creativity takes courage”. This quote has driven my teaching for the last 15 years and reminds me daily that creativity is a choice we make to be different. I am blessed to teach visual art to over 80 creative and passionate high school students each day at a very small school district in Michigan. Because of our size, our students and staff become very close to one another, which creates a school environment of safety and freedom.

Our days in the art room are filled with questions, experiments, exploration, laughter, kindness, gratitude, and an overall appreciation for the world of learning and the world of art.

We come from many different backgrounds but together we create our classroom, our home. It is my hope, that each and every one of my students gains the courage they need to think differently in a world where change is inevitable.

My Project

I would love to have my students create clay 12" sculptures based on famous works from art history. Wouldn't it be amazing to see one of Picasso's famous paintings come to life as a 3-dimensional sculpture? Or how about seeing Andy Warhol's famous Tomato Soup can become something you can hold? Finally, what if we could see in 3-dimensions the beauty of Georgia O'Keeffe's flowers?

This project is aimed at building my student's creativity while driving them to learn more about famous artists and artworks of the past.

Clay and glazes will be needed to make this project a possibility. Thank you for your consideration!
