Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are in a Dual Language (English & Chinese) program in which they receive instruction in both languages. One-third of our class are English language learners who have limited access to English learning resources at home while another third are Chinese language learners who do not speak Chinese at home. Yet, every day, they show me how eager they are to acquire a second language when they are at school.
Each child in my classroom absolutely loves learning, although the method and environment in which they learn best vary greatly.
We try to incorporate a variety of learning strategies, group work, and alternative seating and learning options to ensure that each student's needs are met, right where they are!
They are truly an incredible group, and I am so lucky and thankful to have them to grow and learn together each day!
My Project
The NYC school district is moving into blended learning in the fall semester. In this uncertain time, there is nothing more important than keeping our students safe while making learning accessible to them.
Items in this project can support our students to learn independently and safely both at school and at home.
It is essential that we maintain a routine when carrying out blended learning so students can continue to strive for success.
The dry erase white boards, pocket sleeves and markers allow students to practice their writing and math in school and at home. This would be a great resource especially for students who do not have access to printing and paper at home. Students will also need headphones in school so they could practice using the electronic devices which are essential for remote learning. The bins would allow students to keep their personal belongings in a clean and safe manner while they are at school.
Our students have gone above and beyond during remote learning in the spring semester. We hope that we can do our best to support what they need while they are faced with the new form of learning this semester.
