My Students
I am a general education teacher in a K-8 school in Brooklyn, NY. I teach a wonderful group of motivated students. I am a teacher in a high-poverty school district, where my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. It is my job to find different ways to help my students work through and overcome these challenges.
Despite the many challenges they face, my students are excited to learn each and every day.
I want to continue to foster that motivation by providing new and exciting learning experiences for them. I also want to make sure their learning environment is the very best it can be.
My Project
Making words is an important skill learned in Kindergarten. These vests would allow my students to be completely engaged in the process. It is a fun way to spell out sight words, CVC words, and word family groupings! Each vest features the lower case letter on the front and the capital letter on the back. It includes all 26 letters of the alphabet plus duplicates. My students would love putting on a letter and working in small groups to make and practice reading new words as well as words to know. My students would also love to explore the alphabet, letter sounds, simple words with an interactive tablet! They would be able to choose one of 4 game modes to build skills in English or Spanish. Charades would be an entertaining game for our classroom. It would help build social-emotional skills while strengthening their literacy skills as well.
