My Project

Stamped: Racism, Antiracism and You, is a book that I believe will help make America a better country. Understanding what has happened in the past to make the world the way it is today is essential in any history class. America has a uniqueness that is concerning in that district history textbooks are still missing many important voices from the past and present, and sometimes leave out differing perspectives.

Stamped will help provide a more full picture of how America was built, why we as a country struggle with racism and equity, and also provide a deeply engaging way for students to interact with grade level text.

We will use Stamped to ground ourselves in the past to help make sense of the daily inequities faced as a community.

What I truly love about Stamped, is that it is written to not only explain the Black experience in America, but also to affirm the intrinsic malleability of all humans. This book is already helping to lead conversations about internalized oppression, institutional oppression, and systemic racism, and each student having a book to hold in class will greatly increase the amount of time I can craft lessons and discussions rather than making photo copies of the one copy I currently have.
