it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Hi! The students here are so eager to learn science especially STEM Science which is really called STEAM now. (They added the “A” for art.) We discussed the science behind a pop-up card along with pop-up books. A further dig into the science led into a musical greeting card. How the musical card worked and then the option of buying the technology to create your own!
This past year I had the students make an ordinary greeting card.
The second level was to make a pop-up greeting card which are fairly easy to make once you figure out how to cut and fold the ‘binding’ of the card. Students used a lot of measurements to make the pop-up cutouts equally distanced apart. They had to use measurements to ensure that the cutout that was glued to the pop-up would fit inside the card even when the card was closed.
The next level up is to make a pop-up greeting card with a musical insert. The musical inserts are sold on Amazon Business for 14.99. With the purchase of 63 of these the students in Gr 2-3 will be able to create some spectacular greeting cards for their families. Students can record part of a song or a special message with their voice that they create to share with their families. What a keepsake these cards will be. I’m excited just writing this project!
Students were using measurement (Math), being creative (Art), designing ( Engineering) to make the proper folds and cuts. The students loved the activity! How cool is it to now record their voice or a song to play when the card is opened up!
