I am an early childhood educator in a Title I school located in New York. 75% of our student population receives free school lunch and at least 25% are English Language Learners. Most of my students come from homes where parents are busy working two jobs and they often do not have the opportunity to read books, discuss daily activities or go on trips to the supermarket or the beach. Although I work at a warm and nurturing early childhood center, due to our small size our school is often left bare and devoid of the necessary funds needed for us to provide basic academic and social experiences for our young, motivated and underprivileged students. As an educator I am committed to doing whatever I can to help expose my students to as many learning opportunities as possible, to enrich their vocabulary and assist them in becoming responsible citizens and well-rounded, productive members of society. I would like to incorporate a special calendar activity into my daily lessons during which the students and I will learn about the months of the year, days of the week and holidays etc. This unique, interactive activity will also provide us with the opportunity to celebrate each other's birthdays and special events, which will ultimately increase each child's self-confidence and overall excitement about learning and school. Please help me to motivate my students by creating a fun and creative calendar activity which will help them increase their motivation and desire to learn each day. Your dedication to education is truly commendable!
