My Project
Working with third graders is very rewarding. They are making the transition from learning-how-to-read to reading-to-learn. They are hungry to read more and level up their skills. Part of that learning journey is expanding vocabulary through context clues and learning word definitions and synonyms. Much of their learning this year also transitions them from fiction to non-fiction and research based learning. TPT offers a variety of resources and texts to help facilitate the curiosity for these skills, and the dictionaries give an authentic hands-on experience as well.
Expanding vocabulary will be engaging and intentional with a class set of dictionaries and thesauri for them to get their hands on.
To make this new skill of looking up words fun and long lasting, we will use tools like the highlighter lines and resources from TPT to keep the learning going. This will include having their own printable recording journals for new word acquisition. To keep them well cared for, the label maker will help keep students accountable for their numbered book use.
