Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I currently have a group of 20 fabulous Second Graders in a dual Language classroom. They live in a low income, high poverty stricken inner city community in northern New Jersey. My students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom due to their socioeconomic status and their varying linguistic abilities. Despite this, they all come to school everyday ready, willing and excited to learn! They tackle challenges and strive to do their best. They are resilient, respectful, and hardworking students.
My Project
I am requesting resources such as "Financial Literacy for the Young: Lower Elementary Teacher's Version" and "Teaching Financial Literacy Through Play (Teaching Through Games)" so that I can be better able to bring financial Literacy to my 2nd graders.
Students need to be able to make sense of money and money concepts.
As an educator, I want to be better prepared to teach this life long skill to my young students. My students come from varying countries and money is a different constant in their lives. Many do not know American currency or their value, so reading these texts may inspire me and provide me with ways to incorporate financial literacy through games for my young learners.
Hopefully, after reading the teacher resource books on Financial literacy, I will be better prepared to tackle this with my students while using the cash register, games, and money puzzles. Students love to play games and why not learn financial literacy while playing.
