My Project

I will use the donations to furnish my very first classroom as a first-year Spanish teacher. With the donations, I will purchase classroom décor, classroom materials (colored pencils, markers, glue sticks, etc.), and organizational materials (file organizers, storage containers, etc.). The donations will go towards creating a classroom that allows students to step into the cultures of the language they are learning. It will give students an authentic experience in which they can immerse themselves in the language and culture to develop skills that will improve their communicative proficiency and ability to understand and appreciate diverse perspectives, practices, and products from cultures and communities both similar to and different from their own.

In creating an exciting first encounter with learning a language, via a culturally authentic classroom environment/materials, this will help build a community of inter-culturally competent citizens that are prepared to engage and thrive in a diverse, ever-changing world.

In my district, eighth grade is the first year that students have the opportunity to learn a second language in school. This creates a unique opportunity for me to create excitement and engage students in the language learning process.

As a first-year teacher, I am going into the classroom with little to no supplies and will need to use a lot of out-of-pocket funds to decorate my classroom and purchase necessary teaching materials. This donation would be immensely helpful for me, and it would save me from having to spend as much of my own personal funds. Additionally, the supplies and materials that I purchase will be able to be recycled and re-used for years to come, which makes this donation the gift that keeps on giving. The financial support would be incalculably appreciated and would go a long way in my classroom for years to come.
