This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am an ESOL Kindergarten teacher in a Title I school. The majority of our students are ESOL (speak languages other than English at home). I will serve approximately 100 Kindergarten students this school year. Although some have attended a Pre-K program, this will be the first school experience for many of them. They are very eager and excited about learning! We often have to work through language challenges that sometimes prevent students from mastering basic skills, such as letter and number recognition, and basic phonics and phonemic awareness skills.

I believe that my students learn best by doing, as do most people!!

My students are mostly visual learners. Hands-on centers, pictures, and other manipulative provide an engaging atmosphere for them to learn by doing, and helps them understand the concepts they are being taught. Most of all, these resources will help them build their language skills as they learn new words for their vocabulary in their new English language! The items that I am requesting will help provide a fun and engaging learning experience for my students, and will also provide more resources to effectively differentiate instruction to ensure that all students are learning on their level.

My Project

Our ESOL students are eager and excited about learning the English language! The English Language Development Activity Cards, Reading Flashcards, and Alphabet cards will give students the basic skills needed so that they may eventually learn to read in the English language.

The tabletop easel will be essential for the small group lessons I will be teaching.

The easel will provide an easy place for students to show and share their work. Students will be able to interact with the lessons by writing and reading letters and words they learn using the activity and flashcards, thus improving their speaking abilities.

By donating to our project, you will help my Kindergarten students learn basic academic skills needed to survive as they grow and master their new language! The project will provide resources that will give them extensive vocabulary, and a foundation for reading, writing and speaking.
