My Students

My kindergarten students are a diverse group of active, happy, and eager kids! I teach in a classroom where half of the day's instruction is in English and the other half of the day's instruction is in Spanish. My students are a 50/50 mix of native English and native Spanish speakers. The student population consists of 42% English language learners and 57% of students from low-income families. We are a kindergarten through second grade school and have about five hundred students. Our diverse students love to learn!

My Project

Our dolls and dollhouse furniture has been loved and used for many years. It is falling apart, but it is one of the favorite activities at toy time. They love to act out the social skills they learn with these tiny people. Setting up a house really engages their imaginations and lets them have fun!

Having diverse dolls, that look like my students, will make play even more meaningful!

Throughout the year we focus again and again on what makes us unique and what makes us the same. Students are comfortable talking about their differences and would really learn from and enjoy playing with a variety of dolls!
