This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are proud of their urban community but are faced with several obstacles both in and out of the classroom. Many of my students have very little opportunity for enriching life experiences, and they enjoy being in a classroom, which provides them with a sense of structure, continuity, and safety.
My students thrive when challenged and are eager to succeed, but some do not have the means outside of school.
My students are wildly creative, inquisitive, and spontaneous. They like to move. They love to do hands-on activities, and they crave positive reinforcement.
Many of my students are being raised in single parent households and receive a free lunch based on their household income. From the moment they walk into my classroom, I try my best to focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I may not be able to control their home lives; however, I can certainly control their experiences during the school day. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hopeful to inspire my learners to challenge themselves.
My Project
I've seen the unfortunate scenario play out dozens of times through the years. Missing lab materials that have fallen into the black hole of school supplies... Misplaced mathematics manipulatives never to be seen again... Let's STOP THE MADNESS and get ORGANIZED!
Students with good organizational skills have the ability to create and maintain systems to keep track of information and materials.
Allowing my mathematicians and scientists to utilize these storage organizers, rolling carts, and bins will provide them with the tools necessary to organize and take responsibility for their projects and supplies which will guide them onto the correct path for middle school. These storage organizers will make it easy for students to store their class materials and belongings so that they'll be prepared and ready to work more efficiently. Organization is not only a classroom skill, but a lifelong skill that should be practiced every day.
