This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The pocket chart stand just doesn't work! Our pocket charts slide down one side or the other as it's just not the right size. We need a tabletop pocket chart stand for center time and our bulletin boards have slightly faded paper with lots of holes from prior years.

The first and second grade students in my classes attend a public school in a low socio-economic area where many disadvantaged students and families live.

They love learning and depend on the school and the classroom to provide the best learning environment. When the class is bursting with new and colorful materials, the students take extra care in using the items. They take ownership and are proud to show everyone how to use the materials within the classroom. This is their room; their environment; their domain. They like it clean, spiffy, and colorful!

My Project

The materials in this project will make the classroom environment more appealing. New bulletin board paper will allow students to display their work without worrying about covering the staple holes from prior projects. This paper just doesn't get changed frequently because of the cost, however, this project will provide new paper. It's like putting a fresh coat of paint on the wall. It freshens everything up! The pocket chart stand will allow students to use the pocket chart without the cards falling out due to the improperly sized stand currently being used. The tabletop pocket chart stand will help during center time so the pocket chart doesn't have to lay on the table and book boxes will help to organize the new AR books recently received through a DonorsChoose project, making it easier for students to find just the right book.

A bright, clean, properly working learning environment is every teacher's dream. When the teacher dreams big, students benefit! Students deserve and need to have materials that work for and with them. These items provide color, organization and the opportunity to do be successful during center time.
