This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
With the budget cuts in education there is little if any money available for the arts. We have to purchase instruments a few at a time, but we never seem to be able to have what we actually need.
Our students are hard-working young people.
Most are interested in trying to become better musicians even though many have never had a music lesson in their life. They live in a low income area and for many of them they will be the first in their family to attend college. They work hard in their academic classes so that they maintain their grades and are well on their way to high school graduation and college admission.
My Project
With new drum heads, this will help us keep the band marching. Without the drum line there can be no marching band. With these new drums heads we will be able to continue to perform and entertain the thousands that see us each year. With new drum heads the students will be able to take pride in having equipment they do not have to be ashamed of.
Your donations will help students see that others are interested in young people doing positive things, instead of hanging out in the streets.
As young adults this should also show them that reaching out to help others can be rewarding for both parties involved. Later as adults, we hope they will reciprocate this experience for others.
