Today, a 4th grader yelled out in class. The class sat in silence for a few seconds then broke out in applause and cheers. They were happy to celebrate a classmate who had just won the math fluency challenge. This is how we roll at our school. We work on being supportive because we all don't learn at the same pace.
We would like more materials to make Math learning fun again through games.
Have you ever played War with a deck of cards and developed number sense without realizing it? Many of our kids have not. Did you know that practicing multiplication facts with 12-sided dice "is more funner than just doing times tables!" (MC-4th grade)? Did you know that to add or subtract you might have to regroup(borrow) from a place value to the left? Did you know that "the place value to the left is 10 times the value on the right?" (IC - 3rd grade). Did you know that "keeping score with a pencil that does not get sharpened properly and keeps breaking is not fair because we don't get to roll the dice and play as many rounds as the other groups?" (EB - 3rd grade) These are some of the things we learned, along with our maths during math intervention time. We look forward to more learning. Through your generous donations, we know we can reach more students and make Math learning fun again.
