My Project
I have some of the kindest students in the world. I work at a Title I school and so many of my students have gone through things in their lives that I cannot even imagine. So many of them live in the homeless shelter or are refugees from another country. Because of what they have experienced they have a hard time identifying their emotions and calming down. The Service Stars Mission of the Month for January is “Promote Wellness.” That is what myself and my students hope to do. Our target area is mental health wellness.
Help me give my students the ability to create safe spaces in multiple teachers' classrooms at our school so they and their peers can work through their emotions.
It can be hard to be in a classroom full of kids and trying to manage emotions. Especially when you have gone through so much trauma. I want my students to create calm down kits that they can give and share with different teachers at our school. That way all students feel supported no matter what their circumstances are. They will have tools to work through their emotions. We want to give other students items that will promote healing and emotional regulation.
Items I have included are anxiety/calming strips, magnetic fidgets, kinetic sand, monkey noodle fidgets, foldable fidgets, sensory bracelets, emotion timers, and other resources that will be beneficial to students, especially when they are working on calming and identifying their emotions. While also processing what they have gone through.
