This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My self-contained Life Skills class is made up of 1st to 3rd grade students. Some of my students are nonverbal or have limited speech and at times it is hard to express how they feel or what they need. I have added sensory items and STEM building activities to help improve our sensory area and to reward the students a chance to be creative after working hard on their assignments. Students work well with First work and then Play icons.
The sensory and STEM building items support the students to develop their fine motor skills, counting, sorting, attention and focus and help keep them calm and engaged in their activity of choice.
Additionally, the sensory items will allow them to comfort themselves while the STEM Toys are needed for my students to enrich their creativity and problem-solving skills, number/color recognition and develop fine motor skills.
