My Project

I work with 6,7, and 8th graders in an ELA special education class. My students have low reading levels and often don't like books at all since they have trouble reading. I have dedicated half of our class time to decoding our curriculum and the other half to encouraging a love of books. We started listening to audio books so that my students can still listen to some of the same stories that their peers are reading in general education classrooms. Along with these I have used different tools from TPT so that they also get the experience of doing book reports and book related projects. Until now, I have been teaching elementary school, so this is my first middle school teaching position. I have not had many materials to make this happen. I am happy to say that I have had students this year start to listen to audiobooks. They request that the rest of the series for the audiobook be posted in our Google classroom because they want to know what happens. These students dislike reading so much because it's hard to do that. They hated books so now that they have another option for reading these books, I can see some of my students developing a love of literature. This project will help me increase the tools I have to encourage a love of literature and the projects we can do with our audiobooks. I hope you consider supporting us.
