Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I work in a 3rd grade ICT (integrated co-teaching of ESL and students with special needs) classroom located in the Bushwick area of Brooklyn, NY.
Third grade is a critical transition — a “pivot point" in a child's academic career.
It’s the year that students move from learning to read — decoding words using their knowledge of the alphabet — to reading to learn. Third graders are introduced to the world of standardized testing and are held to even higher expectations than before.
My Project
As a first year teacher, I want to build a safe and loving learning space for my scholars. I hope to build a classroom filled with a variety of learning tools to help my scholars reach their highest potential. From creating a rich classroom library, to having whiteboards for students to write on, I hope to have as many resources to help my diverse learners.
As I head into my second month of teaching, I have realized that my classroom is lacking many learning tools needed to help my scholars succeed.
I want to create a room where my students are excited to come learn and things are organized. I aim to create a special library for my scholars however I need bins to keep the books organized by reading level and genres. I am requesting white boards so my students have a quick and fun way to engage in their learning by showing their work in math or grammar lessons, CD players along with books to listen to for my special education and English language learners and foam mats to create a comfortable meeting area on the floor to do read aloud and small group lessons. With that said, I aim to provide my students with all the necessary tools they need to help their learning. Please help me in doing so!
