This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I'm getting ready for another challenging year. This coming year, I will be teaching a first and a second grade combination class. My students will start with a disadvantage because of the pandemic and I want to have as many tools as possible to help them succeed in school.

I know they will be eager to learn and they will be full of energy and wonder because for some of them, this will be their first time in an actual classroom.

I have been teaching for 19 years in the same public school that is located in a city where 90 percent of our population is socioeconomically disadvantaged. About 4 percent of our student population are foster youth.

My Project

Math is very important and I want to make sure that my students have all the necessary materials to be successful. I also want them to have fun playing Bingo while learning math concepts.

I would like to have some write and wipe boards that will help my students practice adding, subtracting, comparing numbers, working on fact families, using a number line, and learning their numbers.

Using these write and wipe boards will be very helpful, engaging, and motivating because children love to use markers and write and wipe boards. We will use these materials everyday to review one more, one less, ten more, ten less. Students will be able to circle their answers using their dry erase markers. We will work on understanding fact families and number bonds. These boards have a ten frame template that will help students understand the concept of decomposing numbers to 10.

Also, on Fridays we will review addition, subtraction, and other math concepts using Bingo.
