Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students love working in the large school garden. Most recently, we have discussed how growing plants that attract pollinators helps our garden and the entire ecosystem.
Through the Theodore Payne Foundation, my students and I have learned how important it is to encourage the use of California native plants in everybody's garden to support the migration of the endangered Monarch butterflies.
My students and I will grow 3 varieties of milkweed plants appropriate for our climate zone. We will raise the plants from seeds and at our weekly Farmers Market, my students will encourage our visitors to plant and grow native plants in their own gardens to support birds, bees and butterflies.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
