Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have a huge amount of students among the elementary school level, coming to my class for STEM lessons. We do 100% hands-on activities, which help my students better understand the world around us by being actively involved in their projects and experiments. As a part of Computer Science, my students in grades K-5 learn to make their own games, apps, or computer drawings. 99% of Computer Science lessons are made in unplugged mode, using visuals, demonstrations, simulations, and paper charts as we don't have computers or tablets. My upper elementary students want to build real working apps, games and websites using blocks, JavaScript, CSS, HTML and more.

In addition to our regular STEM courses, my students are getting more familiar with the digital world and would love to use App Lab and Game Lab as parts of Computer Science Fundamentals, which I may include in any course to teach students how to create apps, animations, and games in JavaScript, and, I would create lessons and widgets to teach encryption, text compression, and other computer science concepts as well.

My Project

I have been teaching STEM to more than 900 students of elementary grades around the school and I offer my students best learning experiences by providing hands-on activities of all levels. All our computer science lessons are designed as unplugged, we are unable to move to the next level of learning because we are limited in resources. Every student in every school should have the opportunity to learn computer science. All we need are computers, at least one for each buddy-pair-team or for each 3-students-team, so every student would be able to create their projects during our lessons.

As we learn Fundamentals of Computer Science, students are getting more familiar with the digital world and they are eager to apply their theoretical knowledge to the real computer projects by coding, creating their own games, web sites, or digital platforms for different purposes.
