Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My middle school students are amazing, energetic, and outgoing! These students are held to high expectations to be the best version of themselves socially and academically: working collaboratively to demonstrate teamwork, sharing up-to-date information, utilizing the latest technology, and providing encouragement and support to each other as they face challenges to meet Common Core Standards (CCS) and Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).

During recess, SPORTS MATTER and our students want to play and be active.

My incredible middle school students come to school early and ready to learn every day. They love to interact and engage with the world around them during recess. Our school community and families are focused on staying healthy and making smart choices for our bodies.

My students come from diverse backgrounds. I teach at a Title I school in Chicago where most of our students receive free or reduced-price breakfast and lunch. Many of our students have special needs or are English language learners (ELLs). Despite their hardships, these impressive kids achieve above and beyond the standards set at this 1+ ranked school.

My Project

My students have recess each day as part of their school schedule. Our students and teachers currently participate in blacktop games like four square and hopscotch, or use our walking track for walks and races. These are great activities for younger children but often don't spark interest in older students. Although we have a basketball, a volleyball, and soccer ball for older kids to use, games are limited to only a few students. The new soccer balls, volleyballs, and basketballs would be stored on a moveable cart and used for recess intramurals. All middle school students would have the opportunity to participate in intramurals!

Intramurals are a great way to introduce team sports into a school with limited funding.

Students would be able to form teams and play each other during recess. Intramurals could increase student camaraderie, teamwork, sportsmanship, as well as exercise and discipline in a positive way. Your donation towards the new equipment would be a great way to kick off the new school year and team sports program during recess.
