My students need three Orbotix Sphero 2.0 Robotic Balls to learn programming code to operate these educational robots and encourage the skill of coding.

My Students
"Everybody in this country should learn how to program a computer ... because it teaches you how to think." ~ Steve Jobs Should Kids Learn to Code in Grade School? Of course! Deep into the digital age, the need for everyone to understand and to learn programming is becoming more and more apparent.
I teach 95 gifted children in grades 3 through 6 in two rural schools in Alabama.
My students love to learn and need the latest technology to help them. They are so curious and want to try new things and I want to be sure they have it. My state does not fully fund gifted education and funding is left up to the individual school districts. That means, my students are the last to receive the needed material they need to make the most of their talents and gifts.
My Project
Jobs of the future are moving strongly into computer sciences. Many studies have found, by the year 2020, that the number of jobs in computing will outnumber the college graduates in computing fields by almost 100,000. My students will be able to explore and understand programming and coding with these robots. Using Sphero, the student will be learning how to program these robots to make them operate. It has ten different programming environments, to help them learn how to program Sphero. Computer programming (coding) is an essential skill for our 21st century learners. Using Sphero as an interactive and engaging tool brings our core class work off the paper into real life application.
For once, this means I can show my students why math and science is important for them to study.
This also means that basic math and engineering classes just got upgraded for the mobile generation - my students.
