Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Being part of a team teaches students the art of a sport, as well as many valuable lessons that they will use in everyday life. As a team, student-athletes learn discipline, the importance of teamwork, and learn to organize their schedules to balance school and sports time. Instilling school pride and spirit is our main goal as a cheerleading squad. Being leaders of the school, we do our best to bring school pride and spirit to one and all.

Sports programs and extracurricular activities help my students make safe and productive use of their after-school time and motivates them to succeed inside of the classroom and beyond.

I require my student-athletes to have a 2.5 GPA, as well as maintaining high conduct and effort grades. I monitor their progress reports and report cards, as well as checking in from time to time with their teachers. My school is a Title I middle school in an urban school district with a diverse student body. As a squad, we cheer at events and games, practice weekly, but also organize community outreach to ensure that we do our best to motivate our school community to be the best.

My Project

These resources will be used for our Cheerleading Team. The requested materials will allow students to participate in school performances, events, and the games of other sports teams at our school. These materials will be used by 20 students on our cheerleading team for two practices each week and all of our school and community events.

As a brand-new team at our school, we have the inspiration and drive to create a program where students serve as ambassadors for our school and community.

Joining team sports provides many students with the purpose, community, and motivation to excel both inside and outside of the classroom. My goal is to use Cheer as an opportunity for students to be involved as leaders for academics, conduct, and involvement in the school. I believe that these materials will enhance our extracurricular athletic programs by providing part of a uniform for our girls to wear in representing our school as a team. This team opportunity not only gives students an outlet but teaches them valuable lessons and skills, such as commitment, time management, and teamwork, which translate to their lives beyond middle school!
